The AVI Community Health Centre in Nanaimo boasts a diverse team that delivers low-barrier, harm reduction-focused healthcare. Our services encompass primary care, prevention and treatment for HIV and Hepatitis C, STBBI testing, substance use services, and various health promotion initiatives.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position offers a unique opportunity to lead the ongoing development of a comprehensive Community Health Centre (CHC) that serves the vulnerable populations of Nanaimo. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the CHC Nurse Manager and report directly to the AVI Clinical Director. Responsibilities include overseeing the Centre's operations and managing non-clinical staff.

The Director will foster collaboration, demonstrate empathy, and uphold AVI's core values of harm reduction, social justice, and cultural humility. This role emphasizes the importance of promoting dignity and respect for all clients, with a strong focus on health equity and anti-oppressive practices. Additionally, the Director will enhance employee wellness through structured organizational strategies, supporting professional development and work-life balance within a unionized framework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure health services align with the organization's mission and values.

2. Collaborate with the AVI Clinical Director and other leaders to maintain effective operations at the Community Health Centre.

3. Ensure compliance with funding agreements and regulatory standards.

4. Manage program data and ensure timely reporting to funders.

5. Develop and implement operational policies and procedures in partnership with the leadership team.

6. Model cultural competency and ensure services are sensitive to diverse needs.

7. Provide mentorship and support to staff through regular meetings and professional development opportunities.

8. Oversee staff recruitment, training, and performance evaluations in accordance with collective agreements.

9. Promote principles of social justice and harm reduction in staff practices.

10. Identify and mitigate risks associated with service delivery.

11. Manage responses to critical incidents to ensure safety for all involved.

12. Collaborate with leadership to coordinate staff meetings and training sessions.

13. Serve as the Privacy Officer for the CHC.

14. Build and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

15. Assist in budget development and financial oversight in collaboration with the Finance Director.

16. Support fundraising efforts, including grant applications and stakeholder engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS

- 5-10 years of senior management experience in community health or non-profit sectors.

- Proven experience in health service delivery, harm reduction, and health promotion.

- Experience managing human resources in a unionized environment.

- Commitment to cultural safety and trauma-informed practices.

- Relevant university degree or equivalent experience.

- Proficiency in digital platforms and administrative tools.

POSITION DETAILS:
