Job Description

ATS Automation is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems and tools for our clients in the life sciences industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering calculations to determine the strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, and force related to machine and tool designs.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness, and other critical parameters.
  • Produce concepts, working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies, or products using AutoCAD and Solid Works.
  • Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards, such as OSHA, CE, or customer-specific requirements.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, and other critical parameters.
  • Liaise with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Communicate design changes to the Project Lead or Team Lead and ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Supervise the mechanical design effort on a project level, delegating tasks to a team of designers.
  • Organize documentation, including quotes, project plans, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, and other relevant documents.
  • Review electrical requirements with respect to input and output devices with electrical designers and review machine operations and machine sequences with programmers.
  • Assist fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians in debugging, integrating, and resolving problems with systems.
  • Determine tools, fixtures, and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly of mechanical components and complete assemblies.
  • Select appropriate purchased components for mechanical assemblies and create requisitions with delivery dates.
  • Examine project instructions and drawings to determine test specifications.
Qualifications
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of mechanical design experience.
