Position Overview

AECOM is in search of a proficient Systems Engineering and Assurance Specialist to become a vital part of our Transit & Rail Systems Team. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver a diverse range of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all Systems Engineering & Assurance facets of the project, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of:
  • Requirements Management
  • Verification and Validation (V&V)
  • Systems Integration and Interface Management
  • Configuration Management
  • Safety and Systems Assurance (RAM)
  • Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC)
  • Develop, implement, and manage systems engineering processes to effectively govern the complete verification and validation lifecycle of the project, coordinating with various disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical & Electrical, Architecture, and Rail Systems.
  • Extensive experience in formulating and executing Systems Engineering and Assurance plans, ensuring adherence to these plans by project teams, including Systems Engineering Management Plans, Requirements Management Plans, Verification and Validation Plans, and Safety Management Plans.
  • Prior experience collaborating with designers, suppliers, independent safety assessors, and auditors on tasks related to requirements management, V&V, and evidence-based processes.
  • Proven experience in Railway Projects with a solid understanding of Railway Systems and their integration.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and client relationships.
  • Ability to handle complex projects and take responsibility for their scope of work.
  • Generate and/or evaluate scope of works and estimations for rail systems activities.
  • Prepare project reports and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Capable of working with multidisciplinary teams and remotely with design teams.
  • Independently manage technical matters related to the field, requiring extensive progressive experience.
  • Supervise and guide Systems Engineering and Assurance engineers.
  • Facilitate collaboration among numerous stakeholders and third parties.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Promote a culture of safety and serve as a safety role model.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepare bids, proposals, or tenders, and manage budgets and planning for activities and projects.
  • Clarify the discipline of Systems Engineering and Assurance along with its techniques and processes.
  • Establish and maintain connections with the broader Systems Engineering and Systems Assurance network.
  • Act independently on technical matters concerning Systems Engineering and Assurance.
  • Report to senior management while working with minimal supervision, with assignments framed in terms of broad objectives.
  • Report to the project technical manager for project-specific Systems Engineering and Assurance activities.

Qualifications:

*Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with 10 years of experience in Systems Engineering and Assurance in Rail Systems, OR a Technical Diploma with 15 years of experience in Systems Engineering, OR High school diploma with 17 years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering and Assurance.
  • Professional Engineer (PEng) or eligibility.
  • 10+ years of experience with projects and their design lifecycles in rail and transit.
  • Valid Driving License.

*Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with implementing and adhering to standards such as IEEE 1220, IEEE 24748, ISO: Systems Engineering Life Cycle processes & Requirements management; NFPA 130; EN50126 or IEC 62278.
  • Previous experience with key clients in Western Canada.
  • Expertise in Safety and Physical Security Cybersecurity.
  • INCOSE certification.
  • 15 years of experience in Systems Engineering and Assurance is ideal.
  • Project Management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2.
