Role Overview
The Senior Software Testing Specialist is responsible for applying software engineering principles to develop, execute, and maintain comprehensive testing protocols for OSI's software products. This role involves designing and implementing testing methodologies to validate the functionality and reliability of complex systems. The Specialist will work collaboratively with a diverse team of engineers and stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of software solutions to our clients. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role, as the Specialist will play a key part in fostering teamwork and overcoming challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and implement best practices in software testing.
  • Create detailed test plans, procedures, and reports that ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Define testing objectives and develop test cases for various testing types, including functional, regression, and performance testing.
  • Conduct formal manual testing at the system level, ensuring strict compliance with established test protocols.
  • Engage in exploratory testing to assess features, components, and overall system performance.
  • Develop and maintain automated testing procedures for both routine and complex test scenarios.
  • Adapt existing tests to accommodate new products and features, promoting efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Participate in peer reviews of testing documentation and maintain version control of all test procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and document issues encountered during testing, ensuring thorough follow-up on reported defects.
  • Maintain software quality by identifying and reporting defects in the tracking system.
  • Investigate and resolve Software Change Requests and customer support tickets.
  • Demonstrate accountability for work, proactively addressing challenges and communicating updates to management.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members as needed.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of laboratory equipment and ensure safe operational practices.
  • Commit to project timelines and budgets while delivering high-quality results.
  • Contribute to the development of technical documentation that supports project objectives.
  • May take on additional responsibilities, including leading projects and managing testing labs.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams to provide subject matter expertise as required.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8-10 years of experience in a software testing environment, with a focus on real-time systems.
  • Proficiency in testing software on Windows and Linux platforms, with experience in network protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex software issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to obtain necessary security clearance and familiarity with marine navigation systems is a plus.
