Position Overview

AECOM is seeking a Senior Structural Engineering Advisor specializing in Highway Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the comprehensive structural design process, including drawings, specifications, contract documents, and cost assessments.
  • Manage structural design projects from inception through to completion.
  • Lead the development of proposals and collaborative efforts for structural design, evaluations, and inspections.
  • Provide guidance on design criteria, constructability assessments, and construction sequencing for various highway infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers and team members to define project scope, timelines, and budgets.
  • Mentor team members during field evaluations and coordinate site activities to ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Assist in creating project-specific design criteria and specifications utilizing CAD and other relevant software.
  • Facilitate project meetings with clients to ensure alignment and progress.
  • Support the preparation of regulatory documents, permits, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Offer technical support and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Train team members in structural design practices according to provincial standards.
  • Prepare status reports on design and construction for clients and project teams.
  • Foster technical relationships with clients and contribute to business development initiatives.
  • Lead a team of professionals while maintaining effective communication with clients and subcontractors.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth and assist in building the highway engineering team in the region.
  • Implement corporate policies focused on quality management and sustainable practices.
  • Support AECOM's vision, values, and strategic business development goals.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation infrastructure design, or a Technical Diploma with at least 12 years of relevant experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Computer Aided Engineering Design and/or Drafting Technology.
  • Certification with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia.
  • Proven experience in planning and managing the scope and schedule of structural engineering design projects.
  • Familiarity with BC Provincial Standard Specifications, BC Bridge Standards, and the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC).
  • Knowledge of Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes is advantageous.
  • Ability to interpret the Motor Vehicle and Transportation Acts is a plus.
  • Expertise in developing and applying highway engineering policies, practices, and regulations in British Columbia.
