Support Worker for Individuals with Exceptionalities

Dufferin Child and Family Services is a comprehensive agency dedicated to Child and Youth Mental Health, Child Protection, and Developmental Support. We are currently seeking Casual Part-time Respite Workers to join our team. The Respite Worker will engage with children, youth, and adults with exceptional needs, providing essential support within the Dufferin region, including in clients' homes and community settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate community inclusion, independence, and self-determination for those we support.
  • Deliver both direct and indirect assistance in accordance with individual support plans.
  • Assist clients with personal care tasks as necessary (e.g., feeding, toileting).
  • Empower individuals to identify and pursue their personal goals and outcomes.
  • Design and implement enjoyable activities tailored to the interests of those receiving support.
  • Evaluate clients' communication abilities, employing alternative communication methods as needed, and encourage self-expression.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of household rules and expectations.
  • Document and analyze challenging behaviors as required.
  • Utilize non-violent crisis intervention techniques and concepts effectively.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all clients during care and in emergency situations.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with supervisors regarding any unusual occurrences or crises.
  • Uphold confidentiality and respect for all clients.
  • Availability for weekday and weekend shifts is essential.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of a diploma or degree in Human Services (e.g., ECE, PSW, DSW, CYW) from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience with children with special needs.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with exceptionalities is required.
  • Understanding of autism and developmental disabilities.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License (Class G or G2), along with access to a reliable vehicle and insurance.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
  • A clear vulnerable sector and criminal record check.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities (verbal, non-verbal, written).
  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a team and with families as needed.
  • Proficiency in a PC environment, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Current Standard First Aid / Level A CPR certification is required.
