Dufferin Child and Family Services is a comprehensive agency dedicated to Child and Youth Mental Health, Child Protection, and Developmental Support. We are currently seeking:Casual Part-time – Respite Workers

The Respite Worker will engage with children, youth, and adults with exceptional needs, providing essential support within the Dufferin region, both in clients' homes and in the community.

We are looking for an innovative individual who can:
  • Encourage community inclusion, independence, and self-determination for those supported.
  • Deliver both direct and indirect assistance as outlined in personal support plans.
  • Assist with personal care tasks as necessary (e.g., feeding, toileting).
  • Help individuals identify, pursue, and achieve their personal goals and outcomes.
  • Design and implement enjoyable activities tailored to the needs of those receiving support.
  • Evaluate verbal and nonverbal communication skills, utilizing alternative communication methods as needed, and foster self-expression.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of household rules.
  • Document instances of challenging behaviors accurately.
  • Apply non-violent crisis intervention techniques and concepts effectively.
  • Safeguard the well-being of all clients during care and in emergency situations.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with supervisors regarding unusual occurrences or crises.
  • Uphold respect and confidentiality for all clients.
  • Be available for both weekday and weekend shifts.

Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree from an accredited institution in Human Services (e.g., ECE, PSW, DSW, CYW) or equivalent experience with special needs children.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with exceptionalities is required.
  • Knowledge of autism and developmental disabilities is essential.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License (Class G or G2) and access to a reliable vehicle with insurance.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
  • A clear vulnerable sector and criminal record check.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities (verbal, non-verbal, written).
  • Capability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with families as needed.
  • Proficiency in a PC environment, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Current Standard First Aid / Level A CPR Certification is required.
