Position Overview:
The City of New York is seeking a Lead Investigative Analyst to join its dedicated team. In this pivotal role, the Analyst will collaborate with Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) to strengthen and develop intricate cases and investigations, while also facilitating extensive data collection, organization, and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support ADAs in executing long-term investigations into criminal activities.
  • Examine video surveillance and compile video presentations.
  • Develop visual aids such as PowerPoints, graphs, diagrams, spreadsheets, and charts for investigative purposes, grand jury proceedings, and trial presentations. Provide testimony in grand jury proceedings, hearings, and trials, articulating complex analytical processes in accessible language and addressing cross-examination regarding these processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of social media platforms and communication applications, understanding their usage and the records they maintain.
  • Gather and analyze data pertinent to investigations and cases, including surveillance footage, phone records, social media records, and financial documents.
  • Review diverse formats of mobile phone data, assist with cell site mapping, and conduct call detail record analyses.
  • Utilize geolocation data, including location, date, and time, to create heat and point density maps that illustrate investigative findings. Familiarity with geographic mapping tools, such as ArcGIS Desktop, is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Act as a liaison with the High Technology Analysis Unit, collaborating with analysts and assisting ADAs in interpreting forensic reports and results.

Professional Development:
Participate in biweekly meetings with the Crime Strategies Unit and engage in various training sessions to enhance professional growth and the Digital Evidence Analyst role.

Additional Responsibilities:
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Level 1 – Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of experience as a paralegal in the criminal justice system or equivalent.
  • Level 2 – Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 3 years of experience as a paralegal in the criminal justice system or equivalent.
  • Level 3 – Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 4 years of experience as a paralegal in the criminal justice system or equivalent.
Note: A Master's degree may substitute for years of experience.

Preferred Skills:
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with various internal units, external law enforcement agencies, corporate entities, and compliance officers.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research capabilities.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize various computer systems.
  • Willingness to learn with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational, task management, communication, creative problem-solving, and writing skills; attention to detail is essential.
  • Skills in data visualization and presentation of data analysis.
  • At least one reference from a current or past supervisor.
