Position Overview

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking an Accessibility Lead to enhance our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Communications within the Equity and Partnerships framework.

As an Accessibility Lead, you will play a pivotal role in the Diversity Equity Inclusion Team, focusing on the advancement of EDI priorities across various portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with diverse teams and provide guidance to staff and medical professionals to promote EDI objectives.
  • Oversee projects, suggest innovative initiatives, and coordinate with other VCH programs to support engagement and quality enhancement efforts aligned with VCH's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Act as an advisor, collaborator, and educator in various settings.
  • Engage with all VCH departments to foster partnerships, implement inclusive practices, and motivate others to embrace diversity.
  • Demonstrate expertise in equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Utilize skills in change management, project oversight, and evaluation to drive initiatives.
  • Support recruitment strategies that align with the evolving needs of the organization.
  • Enhance awareness of unconscious bias among recruiters and hiring managers to ensure informed hiring practices.
  • Contribute to the development of baseline metrics and KPIs for accessibility initiatives.
  • Assess progress and impact to inform decision-making and identify innovative strategies to tackle systemic bias and organizational challenges.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Business Administration, Education, or Health Administration.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in EDI program and project management, change management, organizational development, engagement, training, and program evaluation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience related to EDI, particularly in accessibility.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in developing and implementing accessibility-focused recruitment strategies, guidelines, tools, and training to achieve high levels of diversity and inclusion in hiring.
  • Strong understanding of federal and provincial human rights and employment policies relevant to accessibility.
  • Excellent project management, prioritization, and planning skills in the design and execution of accessibility programs.
  • Proven experience in project and program evaluation.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis is advantageous.
  • Exceptional writing, speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply judgment and political acumen to convey sensitive information and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize team-building, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills to facilitate critical thinking and effective problem resolution.
  • Encourage creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking in cultural shifts and large-scale change initiatives.
  • Proven ability to facilitate workshops and meetings with multi-level and multidisciplinary teams to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Serve as a consultant and facilitator for internal teams on topics such as inclusive leadership, unconscious bias, accessibility, equity, and diversity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
