Position Overview

About the Role:

The High Acuity Response Team (HART) program at Interior Health represents a pioneering provincial initiative dedicated to delivering mobile critical care services to patients in rural regions. This program caters to adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients requiring advanced care beyond Basic Life Support. The team consists of a Critical Care Registered Nurse and a Registered Respiratory Therapist, complemented by Basic Life Support paramedics from the British Columbia Ambulance Service and an on-call transport physician. In a collaborative team environment, HART works closely with rural healthcare providers to stabilize patients and, when necessary, facilitate their transfer to a higher level of medical care.

During periods without transport duties, HART Registered Nurses actively engage in patient care at their designated base hospital.

Current Transport Teams are Located in:

  1. Cranbrook, near the Rocky Mountains
  2. Trail, situated in the Kootenay region
  3. Kamloops, within the picturesque Thompson Shuswap area
  4. Penticton, in the renowned Okanagan Valley

Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  2. Completion of an accredited critical care training course and/or certificate, along with a minimum of three years of recent experience in caring for critically ill or injured patients, including experience in inter-facility patient transfers; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  3. Completion of an accredited trauma course such as the Transport Nurse Advanced Trauma Course, International Trauma Life Support Course (ITLS), Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC), or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Course (PHTLS); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  4. Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  5. Valid British Columbia Driver's License
