Reporting to the Nursing Manager, the Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in promoting health and delivering comprehensive care. This includes assessing, treating, and managing health conditions through supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative, and rehabilitative practices for critically ill patients of all ages, including adults, children, and infants, with the aim of achieving or maintaining optimal health outcomes.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • Registration or eligibility with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Completion of a Physical Assessment course
  • Proficiency in arrhythmia interpretation
  • Relevant experience in an emergency room or critical care setting
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the Emergency Nursing Process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of emergency patients (to be assessed)
  • Strong assessment and interviewing capabilities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams
  • Willingness to engage in staff meetings and unit-specific initiatives
  • Commitment to mentoring and coaching new staff and students
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain composure in high-stress, crisis situations
  • Utilization of evidence-based practices
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development and education
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently
  • Positive performance and attendance history

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Community College Diploma in Emergency Nursing or Emergency Nursing Certification (ENC)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
  • Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) training
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training
  • Active participation in RNAO, ENAO, or ENA organizations
