Under the supervision of the Manager, the Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in enhancing health outcomes through the assessment, provision, and management of care for patients facing health challenges. This includes delivering supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative, and rehabilitative services to critically ill individuals, including adults, children, and infants, to achieve or sustain optimal health functionality.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Mandatory
- Registration or eligibility with the Ontario College of Nurses
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Completion of a Physical Assessment course
- Proficiency in arrhythmia interpretation
- Relevant experience in emergency or critical care settings
- Ability to demonstrate the Emergency Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients (assessment required)
- Strong assessment and interviewing capabilities
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Willingness to engage in staff meetings and participate in unit-specific initiatives
- Commitment to mentoring and coaching new staff and students
- Capacity to prioritize tasks and maintain composure in high-stress, crisis situations
- Application of evidence-based practices
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
- Dedication to ongoing professional development and education
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Community College Diploma in Emergency Nursing or Emergency Nursing Certification (ENC)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) training
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training
- Involvement in professional organizations such as RNAO, ENAO, ENA
