Job Overview

The Surgical Quality Improvement Analyst plays a crucial role in enhancing surgical outcomes at North York General Hospital. This position is integral to the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), focusing on data integrity and quality enhancement in surgical practices.

Position Highlights

As a Surgical Quality Improvement Analyst, you will be responsible for:

  • Data Management and Analysis
  • Identifying surgical candidates for the program based on established criteria.
  • Gathering comprehensive preoperative, operative, and postoperative data through the hospital's medical record systems.
  • Participating in departmental meetings to provide updates on data collection and postoperative events.
  • Ensuring the reliability of data definitions through Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) assessments.
  • Identifying opportunities for process enhancements in data collection methodologies.
  • Utilizing various software tools for effective data analysis and reporting.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely data entry into the program's database, adhering to established protocols.
  • Conducting thorough chart reviews and literature assessments.

Collaboration and Communication

This role requires effective collaboration with various stakeholders:

  • Building strong relationships with surgical teams, nursing staff, and medical records personnel.
  • Engaging with patients and families postoperatively to gather insights on surgical outcomes.
  • Serving as a resource for internal and external stakeholders regarding the NSQIP.
  • Reporting issues to senior team members and assisting in resolution strategies.

Professional Development

As part of your professional growth, you will:

  • Complete the ACS NSQIP SCR Training/Certification Program within the initial months of employment.
  • Participate in ongoing training and collaborative learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of the annual Surgical Quality Improvement Plan (SQIP) and quarterly reporting.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in a health-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a surgical department or clinical research setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly in Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles and regulatory requirements in clinical research.
