Job Overview

The Surgical Quality Improvement Analyst plays a crucial role in enhancing surgical outcomes at North York General Hospital. This position is integral to the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), which aims to improve surgical care through data-driven insights.

Position Responsibilities

As a Surgical Quality Improvement Analyst, your responsibilities will include:

  • Data Management and Reporting
  • Identifying eligible surgical patients by applying established inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Collecting comprehensive preoperative, operative, and postoperative data using hospital medical record systems.
  • Participating in departmental meetings to present findings on postoperative occurrences.
  • Ensuring the reliability of data through Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) testing.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements in data collection methodologies.
  • Utilizing software tools for effective data analysis and management.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely data entry into the program's database, adhering to established protocols.
  • Conducting thorough chart reviews and literature assessments to support data integrity.

Collaboration with Stakeholders

You will establish strong working relationships with various departments, including Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, and Medical Records, to ensure the success of the program. Your role will also involve direct communication with patients and families to gather essential postoperative information.

NSQIP Participation and Training

The position requires successful completion of the ACS NSQIP SCR Training/Certification Program within the initial months of employment, along with participation in ongoing training and national conferences.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a health-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Certification as a Surgical Clinical Reviewer or willingness to obtain certification.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a surgical or clinical research environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
