Job Title: Deputy Chief Forensic Pathologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Chief Forensic Pathologist to join our team at the Canadian Association of Pathologists. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in providing expert forensic pathology services to coroners, families, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, organization, direction, and administration of the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) under the Coroners Act.
  • Assume responsibility for complex cases as a certified expert in the specialized field of forensic pathology.
  • Provide support to the quality management system for medicolegal autopsies.
  • Contribute to high-quality and professional medicolegal autopsies and related pathology services.
  • Maintain a forensic pathology on-call schedule for high-profile death notifications.
  • Contribute to effective tissue management practices and decision-making for organ retention.
  • Provide direct supervision to the Forensic Anthropologist and assist the Chief Forensic Pathologist in addressing performance management and quality of work issues.
  • Assume direct responsibility for complex cases, requiring in-depth and extensive professional expertise.
  • Participate in the Credentialing Committee to make recommendations regarding the accreditation of registered pathologists.
  • Develop, conduct, and participate in educational programs to upgrade the professional and technical knowledge of pathologists, coroners, police, and other members of the death investigation team.
  • Provide consultative and advisory services to police, Crown Attorneys, lawyers, coroners, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective liaison and collaboration with key stakeholders involved in investigations of sudden or unexpected death.

Requirements:

  • A Medical degree and license to practice medicine in Ontario.
  • RCPSC specialist certification in Anatomical Pathology or General Pathology by examination or equivalent certification.
  • Postgraduate certification by examination in forensic pathology by the RCPSC or equivalent certification.
  • Certification by examination in anatomical pathology or general pathology and postgraduate certification by examination in forensic pathology.
  • Proven senior-level management experience with a track record in building, leading, coaching, and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Experience in leading transformational change exercises.

  • A proven track record of delivering sustainable results and championing an organizational culture of collaboration and accountability.
