Position Overview:
This role is a part-time support staff position within the Bargaining Unit, reporting to the Manager of Access Programs. The position entails working 24 hours per week at a competitive hourly rate. This is a permanent role with a commitment of 8 months per year, allowing for a flexible schedule to accommodate varying class times based on student requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with faculty to adapt course materials, assessments, and assignments
• Formulate and suggest policies and procedures for the effective administration of the work unit
• Provide essential data to stakeholders to guide decision-making processes
• Address the needs of service users by orchestrating all aspects of learning initiatives
• Undertake additional responsibilities as needed
Required Qualifications:
• Completion of a two-year diploma in Educational Assistance, Developmental Services, Child and Youth Work, or Social Services, or equivalent experience in carpentry or welding
• 1-3 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or significant learning challenges, preferably in a teaching or tutoring context
• Training in mental health is considered an asset
• Proficient in educational strategies and familiar with tools such as Microsoft Teams and D2L
• Strong advocacy skills and a readiness to engage in promotional activities
• Exceptional interpersonal communication abilities, demonstrating professionalism, diplomacy, and patience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions, showcasing a high level of initiative
• Strong organizational skills and creative problem-solving capabilities
• A collaborative team player
