Project Overview

The Woodfibre LNG initiative is situated approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. This project encompasses the establishment and management of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the site of the former Woodfibre pulp mill, which is designed to have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and aims to produce around 2.1 million tons of LNG annually.

Position Summary

The Electrical Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring thorough preparation for safe, effective, and efficient maintenance operations within the electrical discipline, guaranteeing the reliability of assets in line with the WLNG Maintenance Execution Business Process. This role involves overseeing a team of maintenance technicians focused on daily operations, while the supervisor will be tasked with planning and prioritizing maintenance activities in the short, medium, and long term. Additionally, this position supports project commissioning activities and aligns priorities between routine and turnaround maintenance execution. The successful candidate will report directly to the Maintenance Manager and will play a crucial role in facilitating the company's construction and operational phases.

During the Construction Phase:

  • Act as the representative for the Maintenance team throughout construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases, dedicating efforts to support construction assurance and operational readiness while building the future maintenance team.
  • Serve as the liaison between project management and asset disciplines during the construction phase.
  • Be accountable for ensuring a safe and smooth startup process within their discipline.

During the Operational Phase:

  • Provide performance management and coaching for the discipline work team and leads, guiding all reports to achieve personal development goals.
  • Develop a comprehensive Discipline Goals Plan for the year and Individual Development Plans for all technicians, ensuring personal development targets are met.
  • Manage operations to deliver outstanding results in cost, reliability, and production within the discipline.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance execution processes, focusing on work order preparation, execution, closure, and continuous improvement.
  • Clarify accountabilities for direct reports, ensuring they understand their roles and expectations, including work priorities.
  • Implement rotation plans within trade groups to facilitate job competency profile sign-offs and promote knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate with Training and HR to ensure adequate job competency profiles exist for craft personnel.
  • Lead engagement sessions with technicians to identify barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives as part of the Maintenance Leadership Team.
  • Ensure safe and effective work execution by engaging with teams to promote safe working practices and job site hazard identification.
  • Manage the discipline's maintenance budget, including developing the annual budget, conducting weekly and monthly reviews, and preparing month-end accruals and forecasts.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Engineering teams to minimize future costs, maintain budget adherence, and manage unexpected production incidents.
  • Interface with other departments to manage incidents and activities, ensuring functional call-out and off-shift coverage systems are in place.
  • Ensure the right personnel with the appropriate competencies are available to maintain the asset.
  • Oversee the performance of contractors within the discipline.
  • Align with Operations and other discipline supervisors regarding work priorities and resource allocation.
  • Support commissioning and startup for brownfield projects.
  • Occasionally provide leave relief for similar positions as required.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Engineer, Technologist, or Red Seal Journeyperson within the discipline with a minimum of 10 years of maintenance experience in the Oil & Gas industry, preferably in the LNG sector.
  • Field Safety Representative level B certification.
  • Proven skills in coordinating multi-craft maintenance or projects.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, such as SAP-MM, is essential; experience in planning and scheduling is a plus.
  • Preferably, the candidate will have prior exposure to SAP implementations for new facilities.
  • Experience in budget development and management.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Business Processes and Systems (Maintenance Execution; Turnarounds; Shutdowns, etc.).
  • Practical knowledge of electrical testing techniques, both destructive and non-destructive.
  • Proven understanding of electrical repair procedures.
  • Practical working knowledge in various areas related to electrical equipment, including generators, motors, transformers, switchgears, and safety protection systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes such as CSA, API, NPC, ISO, and NFPA.
  • Understanding of Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to guide teams and mentor junior staff, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and make decisions effectively.
  • A motivated individual with a focus on mentoring and coaching.
  • Energetic in pursuing continuous improvement processes.
  • Experience working with large, multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly for engaging with front-line workers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities under pressure.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Proficiency with various computer programs.
  • A valid driver's license and passport.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • This role will involve a combination of office and site-based work.
