Fitness Professional

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to senior clients under the direction of the Program Supervisor and/or Registered Kinesiologist associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.
Key Responsibilities- Class Leadership: Lead fitness classes for senior clients, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
- Client Goal Achievement: Work with clients to achieve their fitness goals, as outlined in their assessment.
- Service Delivery: Participate in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery processes.
- Professional Development: Attend educational in-services and workshops to enhance professional skills.
- Fall Prevention Education: Provide fall prevention education to clients, as directed by the Supervisor or Registered Professional.
- Incident Reporting: Report any incidents or situations that require attention to the Supervisor.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all equipment is in good working condition and report any defects.
- Compliance: Function and report in compliance with OHS legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.
- Collaboration: Frequent interaction with Coordinator, Physiotherapist, Supervisor, and clients.
- Education: High school graduate.
- Designations: CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent is required at the time of hire or within 3 months from time of hire.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
- Assets: Experience working in an assisted living environment, bilingualism in French/English, and experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
- Communication: Good communication and active listening skills.
- Teamwork: Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Dependability: Dependability and trustworthiness.
- Confidentiality: Respect for privacy and confidentiality.
- Transportation: Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Criminal Background Check: Current criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector screen, is required.
Attention to detail; Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques; Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs; Hand movements.
