Job Summary:

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to senior clients under the direction of the Program Supervisor and/or Registered Kinesiologist associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads fitness classes to senior clients, promoting physical activity and well-being.
  • Works with clients to set and achieve fitness goals, providing guidance and support.
  • Participates in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery, ensuring high-quality programming.
  • Attends educational in-services and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • May provide fall prevention education and other health-related programs as directed by the Supervisor or Registered Professional.
  • Reports any incidents or concerns to the Supervisor, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting of incidents and near misses, in accordance with VON policies and procedures.
  • Functions and reports in compliance with OHS legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.

External and Internal Relationships:

  • Frequent interaction with Program Coordinators, Physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Frequent interaction with clients, providing exceptional customer service and support.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent is required at the time of hire or within 3 months from time of hire.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity, with a focus on older adults.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
  • Experience working in an assisted living environment, such as recreation therapy, is an asset.
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset.

Other:

  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Current criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector screen, is required.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques.
  • Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics.
  • Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs.
  • Hand movements and fine motor skills.
