Your Role:
As a Registered Nurse within our Med Clinic Services, you will play a vital role in a cohesive, interdisciplinary team aimed at providing comprehensive services and programs to our clients. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver nursing care for patients undergoing medical interventions such as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Intravenous Ketamine therapy, and Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS).
- Prepare patients for their treatments and ensure a smooth process.
- Set up and maintain the rTMS and/or ECT and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) environments.
- Provide post-anesthesia care, including assessment, monitoring, and documentation in accordance with PACU Policies & Procedures.
- Adapt to the dynamic needs of patient care while adhering to CNO standards and RNAO Best Practice Guidelines.
- Assume Charge Nurse duties as assigned and oversee the work of others.
- Follow care plans and manage patient assignments effectively.
- Administer both psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments.
- Prepare and deliver intravenous medications as required.
- Conduct necessary clinical assessments upon admission and at various intervals, including Mental Status Exams.
- Act as a mentor, preceptor, or resource nurse as appropriate.
- Engage in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences.
- Provide assistance to the medical clinic when necessary.
- Be flexible in accepting changing work assignments across Homewood Specialized Services as directed.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in emergency mental health and crisis intervention, particularly with mood and anxiety disorders.
- Experience and training in post-anesthesia care and recovery room techniques.
- Knowledge of ECT and/or rTMS as therapeutic interventions.
- Proficient in IV insertion and treatment.
- Current CPR/Basic Rescuer certification.
- Strong assessment and documentation capabilities.
- Experience in treating psychiatric disorders, including PTSD and aggression management.
- Familiarity with the Mental Health Act and community mental health resources.
- Understanding of CNO documentation standards and PHIPPA regulations.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an innovative interdisciplinary team.
- Capability to prioritize and function effectively in a challenging environment.
- Willingness to take on leadership roles as needed.
