Psychiatrist - Locum - Mental Health Specialist

Job Summary:

Homewood Health Centre Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Psychiatrist to join our team as a Locum in our Women's Trauma and Concurrent Program. This is a full-time opportunity that requires a specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical care to patients, including diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders, medication management, and referral to the Interventional Psychiatry Service (ECT, rTMS, Ketamine infusion) when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals in providing optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Complete documentation, including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes, and a comprehensive discharge summary.
  • Utilize electronic medical platforms, such as Caseworks and BDM, to manage patient care.
  • Provide ECT treatment to patients at the Homewood Health Centre approximately once per month (asset).

Requirements:

  • Specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Experience with diagnosis and management of complex psychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and influence with proven critical thinking, analysis, and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospital.
  • Working knowledge of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and the principles of trauma-informed care.
