At CBC/Radio-Canada, we are dedicated to producing content that informs, entertains, and connects Canadians across various platforms. Our achievements are fueled by our commitment to values such as creativity, integrity, inclusiveness, and relevance.
Do you possess the talent and enthusiasm to navigate this dynamic and evolving industry? Whether you are in front of the camera, on air, online, or working behind the scenes, you will be part of a team that excels in making connections and sharing stories that matter to Canadians.

Job Overview:

CBC News is seeking three (3) Production Associates to join the team responsible for programming our FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) channels as we expand our offerings.

These are full-time, one-year contracts; two positions are based in Toronto, and one is in Vancouver.

Excited by the chance to work in this innovative platform, you should excel at problem-solving and remain undeterred by technical challenges and new processes. You are dedicated to the mission of the channels and the service they provide to the audience.

You possess strong editorial abilities, critical thinking skills, and creativity that enable you to source, evaluate, and present news video for our FAST channels while continually seeking innovative approaches. You adhere to our programming policies and ensure that all content complies with CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices.

Driven by curiosity and an open mindset, you demonstrate exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. You collaborate effectively with others while consistently upholding high professional ethics. You are encouraged to seek guidance when needed, but you must also show initiative and sound judgment.

You value the perspectives of your colleagues and appreciate diverse opinions and experiences. You embody and promote the principles of a respectful culture focused on diversity and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage video playlists for FAST channels within our playout system.
  • Coordinate with local newsrooms to update and oversee playlists on their channels.
  • Organize, manage, and monitor livestreams on the channels.
  • Schedule and track live newscasts and their repeats.
  • Plan rebroadcasts of past shows, such as Marketplace and The Fifth Estate, on the channels.
  • Propose ideas for new playlists that align with channel objectives.
  • Identify and recommend individual videos for the channel.
  • Track older videos and archive them for future rotation as necessary.
  • Manage video metadata to ensure proper categorization.
  • Communicate with newsrooms to export approved videos.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to video processing for streaming.
  • Edit approved videos not yet in the system and tag them for exclusive use on FAST.
  • Enhance video extracts to improve quality.
  • Process various elements, including promos and channel IDs; plan and execute their broadcast.
  • Collaborate with production editors to add essential elements to video clips.
  • Maintain accurate information for programming guides.
  • Report discrepancies in programming guides to external partners.
  • Monitor the quality and performance of channel content on third-party platforms.
  • Notify the executive producer of significant issues.
  • Oversee and verify live and on-demand broadcasts of scheduled shows and newscasts.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of recent experience in the news industry related to video content.
  • Strong journalistic skills with knowledge of CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Familiarity with CBC's internal systems and processes.
  • Understanding of how streaming services and applications function.
  • Awareness of audience habits in streaming.
  • Knowledge of video reporting formats on digital platforms.
  • Proficient computer skills and technical capabilities.
  • Proven ability to coordinate work and collaborate with various CBC departments effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of video storytelling and related skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Highly developed communication skills.
  • Understanding of national and international news.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge assessments.

We appreciate all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to reflecting the diversity of our country. We believe that our workforce should mirror the ever-changing makeup of our nation to create and share stories that connect Canadians.
