We are seeking a TV Host-Producer to lead our CBC News BC streaming channel headlines team, responsible for creating engaging live headlines and breaking coverage on streaming, digital and social platforms.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, News, you will be responsible for shaping special news coverage on all platforms, acting as an advocate and collaborator in the assignment process, and creating new forms of storytelling with video across all platforms.

The Host-Producer will create programming that provides context to developing and breaking news with multiple elements, including reporter-driven stories, original content and interviews.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conceiving and developing headlines ideas and concepts
  • Presenting all aspects of the news and any television specials with an engaging on-air presence
  • Planning and conducting interesting, inquisitive and relevant segments, interviews, and conversations with columnists
  • Creating a connection with audiences by presenting stories in an engaging and interesting manner
  • Participating in public and/or community relations activities to promote the station and/or the Corporation
  • Developing the content, including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing
  • Planning, organizing and co-ordinating news updates
  • Evaluating all facets of a production, including the performance of program and production personnel

As required, the Host-Producer will also perform the following tasks:

  • Selecting, re-writing and/or editing copy or text written by others
  • Editing and mixing, or directing the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements
  • Ensuring the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the program
  • Determining the order and importance of various elements of a program
  • Assigning, co-ordinating and supervising the work of personnel for which the Producer is responsible
  • Identifying, developing and maintaining contacts appropriate to the area of assignment

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A university degree or equivalent
  • Five years' experience in broadcasting or a closely related industry
  • Proven presentation skills in all aspects of live television
  • Demonstrated talent as a programmer with an ear for pacing, tone, presentation and production
  • Superior writing, editorial and production skills
  • Interest in cross-platform media production
  • Solid journalistic background, including experience hosting
  • An ability to choose relevant, audience-focused stories that reflect issues being discussed by the general public
  • Interest and knowledge of events and issues in British Columbia
  • Demonstrated skills in the area of conflict resolution, mentoring, talent recognition and development
  • A commitment to reflecting community and diversity
