Job Overview:

CBC News is seeking three (3) Junior Producers to enhance the team responsible for programming our FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) channels as we expand our local channel offerings.

These are full-time, one-year contracts; two positions are based in Toronto, and one in Vancouver.

You possess strong editorial skills, critical thinking, and creativity that enable you to source, evaluate, and present news video for our FAST channels while continuously seeking innovative approaches. You will adhere to our programming policies and ensure all content aligns with CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage video playlists for FAST channels within our playout system.
  • Coordinate with local newsrooms to update and oversee playlists.
  • Organize, manage, and monitor livestreams on the channels.
  • Schedule and track live newscasts and their rebroadcasts.
  • Plan rebroadcasts of previous shows, ensuring alignment with channel mandates.
  • Propose ideas for new playlists that resonate with channel objectives.
  • Identify and suggest individual videos for inclusion on the channel.
  • Archive older videos for potential reintroduction into rotation.
  • Manage video metadata to ensure accurate placement.
  • Collaborate with newsrooms to export approved videos from internal systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to video processing for streaming.
  • Edit approved videos for exclusive use on FAST channels.
  • Enhance video extracts to improve quality.
  • Process various elements, including promotional content and channel identifiers.
  • Work with production editors to incorporate basic elements into video clips.
  • Maintain accurate programming guide information.
  • Report discrepancies in programming guides to relevant partners.
  • Monitor the quality and performance of channel content on third-party platforms.
  • Communicate significant issues to the executive producer.
  • Oversee and verify live and on-demand broadcasts of scheduled shows.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in the news industry related to video content.
  • Strong journalistic skills with a solid understanding of CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Familiarity with CBC's internal systems and processes, including video content management systems.
  • Understanding of how streaming services operate.
  • Awareness of audience behaviors in streaming contexts.
  • Knowledge of video reporting formats on digital platforms.
  • Proficient computer skills and technical aptitude.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across various departments.
  • Demonstrated capacity to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Understanding of video storytelling and related skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Highly developed communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Knowledge of national and international news landscapes.
