Job Summary

The Student Assistant, Royals Event Day Coordinator will play a vital role in the successful delivery of departmental events and activities at Douglas College. This position will assist in the strategic planning and execution of events, ensuring a high-quality experience for students, employees, and the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup and takedown of event staging, flags, tents, tables, chairs, and technical equipment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and interact with attendees, staff, and vendors in a professional manner.
  • Support the operation of digital scoreboards, including setting up displays and handling technical issues.
  • Assist with concessions, including selling, tracking, and maintaining inventory, as well as handling cash and operating a Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Work as a gate attendant, selling tickets and handling promotions and events.
  • Participate in webstreaming events, ensuring live streaming and recording to a local hard drive.
  • Support the stats team, tracking game statistics and entering data into software systems.
  • Assist with event marketing and promotion, including creating displays and handling promotional materials.

Requirements

  • Ability to work within a team environment and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Knowledge of sports rules and regulations, including FIFA, FIBA, and FIVB.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.
  • High degree of attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment as required, up to 30 pounds.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Ability to attend training sessions and operational orientations.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term, or have been enrolled in a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and intend to enroll in the term immediately following the work term.
  • International students must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College, or be an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that allows on-campus employment.
