Your Opportunity:

The Clinical Respiratory Specialist I plays a pivotal role in the domain of Respiratory Therapy, offering guidance and proficiency while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to aid in the evaluation and treatment of patients experiencing cardiopulmonary and associated conditions. This position involves active participation in the education of patients, trainees, healthcare staff, and medical professionals; contributing to enhancements in departmental and service area processes; upholding a professional and accountable practice; advocating effectively for patients through the principles of patient and family-centered care; and providing technical assistance for all Respiratory Therapy apparatus.

All positions within Alberta Health Services are expected to be adaptable to work across various areas supported by Respiratory Services as needed. Daily assignments may be modified at the discretion of management to align with departmental and operational requirements. Key areas of focus include Intensive Care Units (ICU), general wards, and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU).

Description:

As a Clinical Respiratory Specialist I, your responsibilities will encompass the assessment of patients (clients, residents), the formulation and execution of respiratory therapy care strategies, and the monitoring of patient progress. You will oversee a range of diagnostic and therapeutic devices and interventions. Collaboration with diverse clinical teams will be essential to improve clinical outcomes. Additionally, you will provide training and support to healthcare providers regarding the use and maintenance of respiratory equipment, as well as educate patients and their families about conditions, medications, devices, and treatment options.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Independent RRT experience in acute care settings within the last two years, specifically in ICU, Emergency Room, Wards, NICU, or Outreach. NICU experience is highly desirable. Familiarity with RGH site orientation. Certifications such as NRP/PALS/ACLS/CRE/CTE/CAE or instructor-level qualifications. Membership with CSRT. A degree in a health-related field. Completion of professional development courses within the last two years. Formal training as a preceptor. Training in tobacco cessation. Experience in a charge role. Involvement in a healthcare committee or working group. Certification in arterial line management.
