Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist

Job Summary:
Kensington Health is seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team in the Operating Room. As an Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our surgical team.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver patient-centered care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to our organization's integrity policy at all times.
- Assess, evaluate, and accurately record patient pre and postoperative status, demonstrating a commitment to thoroughness and attention to detail.
- Ensure accurate and complete records are maintained, reflecting your dedication to professionalism and accountability.
- Assist with all surgical procedures, setting up and preparing the operating room with precision and care.
- Pay close attention to the work of the operating field, anticipating the needs of the surgical team and ensuring seamless collaboration.
- Demonstrate expertise in the care and handling of surgical instruments, adhering to facility policies and protocols.
- Scrubs and assists the surgeon during procedures, maintaining a sterile and aseptic environment at all times.
- Take ownership of your decisions and professional practice, upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
- Report any breaks in technique to the circulating nurses and the surgeon, ensuring the maintenance of a safe and sterile environment.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills are essential for success in this role.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience in Ophthalmology is preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge of scrubbing techniques in an OR is an asset.
- Familiarity with ORNAC standards is essential.
- Continuous preoperative clinical development and competency are expected.
- A strong work ethic and excellent attendance record are mandatory.
Required Professional Designation/Certificate:
- Current Operating Room Certification is required.
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario is essential.
- Current BCLS certification is mandatory, with ACLS being an asset.
- Membership in local professional associations is preferred.
