Job Title: Transit Operations Coordinator

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Transit Planning, the Transit Operations Coordinator is responsible for the daily scheduling and dispatching of Conventional and Specialized transit bus services. The incumbent provides a supervisory role to bus operators through coordinating and prioritizing their work and ensures the continuous operation of bus services, regardless of the conditions which may affect the delivery of that service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and prioritize bus operator work to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate traffic problems, authorizing route changes and notifying drivers as needed.
  • Prepare rosters and assignments for quarterly operator pick and address any necessary changes to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Responsible for scheduling operators for charter and SMARTbus bookings.
  • Monitor operator schedules and locations, and maintain the daily dispatch log and statistical information.
  • Ensure running boards (paddles) are created for scheduling, estimated quotes are sent to customers, and charter stats are maintained.
  • Assist with developing plans for fixed route charter service, including evaluating system performance and making recommendations.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Certificate in Business or Office Administration required.
  • Three (3) years' experience in office administration, including two years' experience in a dispatch and scheduling environment.
  • Two (2) years' experience in a public transit operations environment.
  • Valid Class five (5) Operator's Licence required.
Working Conditions:

The incumbent will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong organizational and communication skills. The ability to work a rotating shift, including holidays, evening/night shift, and weekends, is essential.
