Position Overview:

BluMetric Environmental Inc. is in search of a Senior Project Manager with extensive experience in environmental consulting services to enhance our Project Management Office (PMO) based in Ottawa, Ontario. The Senior Project Manager will serve as the key individual responsible for the comprehensive planning, execution, and successful delivery of corporate projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within financial constraints, and aligned with specified requirements. This role is crucial in defining project scopes and requirements, securing necessary resources, and overseeing the contributions of project team members. The efficient execution of project deliverables, rigorous quality assurance, and transparent communication with stakeholders are essential throughout the project's lifecycle. Collaborating closely with the PMO Service Line Manager, the Senior Project Manager will also spearhead the development of a Project Management Excellence program tailored for BluMetric's Professional Services teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of projects within the company's portfolio, encompassing both strategic initiatives and tactical operations.
  • Develop a Project Charter for each sanctioned project, outlining goals, objectives, risks, assumptions, staffing requirements, roles, responsibilities, work breakdown structure, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Manage project activities throughout their lifecycle, ensuring adequate resource allocation, scheduling, documentation, budgeting, and other critical success factors.
  • Utilize appropriate software tools and project management methodologies to plan all project timelines, milestones, deliverables, and micro-deliverables.
  • Organize project teams into effective workgroups and guide them in producing deliverables that meet established specifications.
  • Negotiate with other departments to secure the necessary skill sets for project success.
  • Establish and implement mechanisms for tracking project progress and reporting to stakeholders through a formal communication strategy.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings to gather feedback, input, and expectations, integrating these insights into project plans.
  • Implement and adhere to a formal change management process.
  • Reallocate resources across various projects as needed and address any discrepancies in resource allocation.
  • Follow established project management methodologies diligently.
  • Generate regular reports on project status and escalations, presenting these during stakeholder meetings.
  • Monitor all project expenditures to ensure adherence to budget constraints and secure additional funding when necessary.
  • Supervise the efforts and billing of external consultants, contractors, and specialists.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts within project teams and associated tasks, creating contingency plans to mitigate risks.
  • Manage project dependencies effectively.
  • Conduct post-project evaluations to identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations based on findings.
  • Mentor and support the development of technical project managers within BluMetric's Professional Services teams, fostering a culture of excellence in project management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • At least ten (10) years of experience in managing professional services projects or technical project delivery.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geosciences, or Environmental Science is preferred.
  • Proven track record in executing project management methodologies and delivering successful project outcomes.
  • Experience in developing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), scheduling, cost estimating, budget development, and document control.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary project teams in a consulting environment.
  • Experience within a professional consulting services organization is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Solid business acumen.
  • Proficiency in standard desktop applications, including the MS Office suite and project scheduling tools.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.
