The Role:

One Kids Place Children's Treatment Centre is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Chief Financial Officer. This role demands a seasoned expert who will oversee a comprehensive suite of financial and accounting services for the organization, which encompasses several uniquely funded initiatives. The Chief Financial Officer is expected to possess an entrepreneurial mindset, actively seeking to uncover new avenues, collaborations, and internal efficiencies to enhance revenue streams while promoting fiscal responsibility within the Centre. The organization primarily functions in a not-for-profit framework, complemented by an evolving fee-for-service model. The Chief Financial Officer will also manage fundraising resources and provide financial reporting support for all organizational functions to the Board of Directors and/or as instructed by the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to deliver financial insights and support to both corporate and program divisions.
  • Work closely with department heads to finalize the annual budget.
  • Engage in the creation of new programs and initiatives while optimizing existing services to enhance efficiency and business models, including fee-for-service structures.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial and statistical information for the Centre.
  • Compile and prepare the organization's annual financial statements along with quarterly variance analyses, overseeing the workflow process.
  • Generate quarterly and year-end financial and statistical reports as outlined in transfer payment accountability agreements.
  • Develop and recommend financial policies for approval, ensuring effective implementation.
  • Establish audit and internal control measures that align with the organization's goals and operations.
  • Facilitate the annual audit by providing necessary documentation and month-end reporting as required.
  • Act as a resource for the Finance/Audit Committee and present findings to the Board as directed. Propose Financial Investment Strategies and conduct Return on Investment analyses.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and economic models to support the Senior Leadership Team's decision-making processes.
  • Manage Procurement & Asset Management practices for the organization.
  • Assist in risk management evaluations related to business development, contract management, and the RFP process.
  • Identify and secure appropriate insurance coverage for the organization's diverse needs, including liability and property.
  • Review capital expenditure requests and provide recommendations.
  • Supervise and oversee financial operations.
  • Assess organizational requirements and efficiencies, sourcing software solutions to enhance business functions.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, including auditors, financial institution representatives, consultants, and fundraising partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation with 5-10 years of experience in Not-for-Profit accounting and finance.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting is required.
  • A Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Proficient in government and non-profit funding reporting requirements, with experience in the public sector, particularly with community agencies and funders. Experience in children's services is a plus.
  • Strong financial and management reporting capabilities, proven analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Experience in budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Direct experience in developing and preparing various financial and analytical reports, producing detailed and accurate work in a high-volume environment.
  • Familiarity with profit-generating activities within a not-for-profit context.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple time-sensitive reports and requirements.
  • Capacity to work independently and alongside senior management.
  • Proven history of delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel (intermediate to advanced), and financial software such as ACCPAC SAGE 300.
  • Preference for bilingual candidates (French/English).
