Lead Engineer for Tunnel Projects

Who are we seeking?
We are excited to present an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Tunnel Engineer/Tunnel Lead to enhance our North American operations. As a leader in tunnel design, GHD is currently involved in significant projects, including major subway extensions. In this role, you will oversee tunnel project interfaces, ensuring effective client engagement while managing technical aspects, mentoring team members, and executing project management duties.
This position allows you to leverage your expertise and local insights, contributing to innovative solutions in exciting projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Your role will encompass a variety of tasks, including:
- Engaging with clients, including transport and water authorities, to foster strong relationships for design and construction projects.
- Facilitating collaboration between design and construction teams to enhance efficiency.
- Successfully managing design consultant projects, adhering to timelines, budgets, and engineering standards.
- Demonstrating resilience and flexibility in addressing complex challenges with effective problem-solving techniques.
- Overseeing project and design management from feasibility studies through to construction phases.
Desired Expertise:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience in leading the detailed design of complex tunneling projects.
- Proven track record in supervising or overseeing design teams for large-scale interdisciplinary tunneling initiatives.
- Comprehensive knowledge of various tunneling methods, including cut and cover, TBM, and trenchless techniques.
- Experience in tunnel design for both rock and soft ground conditions.
- Familiarity with analytical and numerical analysis methods and industry-standard engineering software.
- Understanding of tunneling construction methods, logistics, and equipment selection.
- Experience in risk management and claims resolution related to tunneling projects.
Qualifications:
- A natural communicator and strategic thinker with a collaborative approach.
- A degree in civil or geotechnical engineering, with a master's degree in Tunnel/Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of post-graduate experience, including at least 5 years in large diameter tunnels and underground projects.
- Professional engineering designation in relevant jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated project management skills, capable of leading significant tunneling projects.
