Nutrition Care Specialist

The Nutrition Care Specialist, functioning as a Medical Nutrition Expert, is an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team responsible for overseeing and managing the nutritional care and education of patients. This role involves initiating a cost-effective medical nutrition therapy process that includes patient assessment, crafting a patient-centered and goal-oriented care plan, implementing and evaluating the plan, and continuously monitoring nutrition care strategies. These plans are designed to be outcome-focused, grounded in evidence-based practices, and aimed at optimizing both clinical and financial results while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention.
In outpatient settings, the Nutrition Care Specialist equips patients with effective, evidence-based methods for self-managing their conditions, thereby reducing hospital admission rates. By ensuring optimal nutritional status for patients requiring hospitalization, this role enhances medical management, leading to improved clinical outcomes such as lower infection rates, shorter hospital stays, and decreased readmission rates.
Candidate ProfileWe encourage applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:
- B.Sc. in Nutrition/Dietetics is mandatory
- Completion of an accredited Dietetic internship is essential
- Licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists is required
- Eligibility for membership with the Dietitians of Canada is necessary
- Proven accountability in professional practice
- Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent client focus with the ability to establish solid client/practitioner relationships
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills
- Collaborative teamwork abilities
- Commitment to ongoing improvement and innovation
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills
- Dedication to fostering a culture that promotes safety, ethical practices, and organizational health
- Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position
- Willingness to travel to various sites as needed
- Proficiency in additional languages is an asset, with French being preferred
