Transportation Operations Manager

Job Summary:

Armour Transportation Systems is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dispatch Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our dispatch department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient and timely delivery of goods, coordinating with drivers, warehouse staff, and customers to schedule and track shipments, and analyzing data and reports to identify areas for improvement in dispatch processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delegate and prioritize pick-up of freight to ensure movement of freight to outer terminals can be done efficiently.
  • Communicate with Operations Manager when required to ensure quality decisions.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the dispatch department, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of goods.
  • Coordinate with drivers, warehouse staff, and customers to schedule and track shipments.
  • Utilize transportation management systems to optimize routes and minimize costs.
  • Communicate with carriers and freight forwarders to arrange pickups and deliveries.
  • Analyze data and reports to identify areas for improvement in dispatch processes.
  • Train and supervise dispatch team members, providing guidance and support.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments, including tracking information and delivery confirmation.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years' experience in the transportation and logistics industry or a related field, or a combination of relevant work experience and education.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a dispatch role.
  • Previous experience supervising others is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the road transportation industry, including Atlantic Canadian geography and travel times, is considered an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Computer literacy and a strong understanding of Microsoft Office are required.
  • Experience and understanding of the TruckMate system are considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven terminal/office environment.
  • Ability to work variable shifts when required (days, nights, weekends, holidays) and longer shifts to cover gaps.
