About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Tech to join our team at McLean Hospital. As a Mental Health Tech, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care and participating in therapeutic milieu.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care
    • Accurately and timely document patient information, progress notes, and observation sheets
    • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, adhering to professional boundaries
    • Participate in patient rounds and teams to ensure comprehensive care
    • Complete patient care assignments and communicate changes in patient status to the Registered Nurse
    • Identify and de-escalate crisis situations using non-verbal and verbal techniques
    • Manage complex patient situations and schedules, promoting the least restrictive alternatives
  • Therapeutic Milieu
    • Participate in planning and implementation of patient groups and activities
    • Provide and supervise recreation and off-hall activities according to patient needs
    • Provide direction, support, and supervision to patients as needed
    • Follow established Nursing policies, procedures, and protocols
    • Conduct active milieu assessments and report safety concerns
  • Unit Environment
    • Identify and report house cleaning and equipment problems to the Unit Secretary/ND
    • Participate in the unit's inventory system and report low supplies
    • Initiate activities to maintain a clean and organized patient and staff environment
  • Activities of Daily Living
    • Identify patient hygiene needs and implement interventions to meet these needs
    • Provide for patients' nutritional needs according to unit procedure
    • Assist and reassure patients during tests, exams, and procedures
    • Escort and supervise patients on and off ground, maintaining patient safety
  • Professional Growth and Competency
    • Complete mandatory in-service requirements
    • Identify areas of strength and need for professional development with the supervisor
    • Maintain competency for treating age-specific patient populations
    • Seek constructive feedback on work performance from peers and professional colleagues
    • Participate in critical incident de-briefing
    Requirements
    • Education
      • High School diploma or GED required
    • Experience
      • Previous experience in direct patient care preferred
    • Skills
      • Verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work in collaboration with others
