Job Summary:

The Target Delivery System Engineering Lead position provides technical leadership for the multidisciplinary engineering team supporting the Target Delivery System (TDS) maintenance and operations at a nuclear power generation site. The team is accountable for the safe and reliable operation of the TDS and will include design, development, operational support, reliability enhancements, preventative/predictive maintenance planning, outage support, and field and installation activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a multifunctional engineering team to maintain the operational requirements of TDS, including providing daily support to operations, conducting required design changes, and executing maintenance (planned/unplanned).
  • Facilitate proper plans and schedules with individual contributors and ownership of the cost/schedule commitments of your team.
  • Create and enforce the use of Task Definition Forms (TDFs) for work assignments.
  • Actively participate with the TDS Manager in resource planning, recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Contribute directly to the support of the system, with knowledge of the design and design change process.
  • Respond to production concerns, leading the cross-functional team through effective problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
  • Interface with key partner resources, including Laurentis Energy Partners, OPG operations, BWXT Medical operations, and BWXT Field Services.
  • Provide support for parts and kits supply and for the execution of regular maintenance, including portions that may take place during a reactor outage.
  • Provide immediate response to unplanned maintenance, with 24/7 support required in response to issues that affect planned production.
  • Participate in and lead internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, preparing and presenting technical data.
  • Provide technical direction/decisions and oversight of design activities, including technical review and verification of documentation and/or drawings, as applicable.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the nuclear codes and standards applicable to the Canadian Nuclear environment.
  • Lead by example, ensuring compliance and adherence to processes, industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
  • Provide assurance of health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.
  • Travel (approximately 30%) will be required, with the core support team stationed in Peterborough, Ontario, and the TDS operated in Clarington, Ontario.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Nuclear, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Holds or is in the process of obtaining a valid PEO license.
  • Experience with the Target Delivery System design, fabrication, and assembly or operation is considered an asset.
  • Typically requires 5 to 10 years' experience in design or manufacturing engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Mining, Oil and Gas, or other highly regulated and process-based design.
  • Typically requires 3 years' experience in design or manufacturing environment, with proven success in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrable experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics, and other project management methodologies.
  • Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments: mechanical, systems, I&C, software design, and manufacturing considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills, strong technical experience, and the ability to work in a team.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (preference for Inventor/Solidworks).
  • Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry, strong preference for on-site experience at a nuclear operating plant. Valid security clearance, orange badge, Vendor MTL, and Vendor DTL qualifications all considered assets.
  • Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.
  • Familiarity with risk-based modification process, including a general understanding of Engineering Change Control concepts in the nuclear industry.
