Key Responsibilities

As an Applications Engineer at ATS Automation, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of technological functions in various aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering, primarily in support of design and development of factory automation systems.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize, price, and write detailed technical proposals for all types of automation equipment and projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering management to develop pricing and conceptual layouts for complex projects.
  • Assist engineers and technical staff in design and development of products, systems, processes, and equipment by analyzing technical problems and working closely with customer specifications.
  • Engage with third-party vendors and suppliers in the quoting process, as necessary.
  • Travel to customer sites to assist in project or product development, working with engineering design specifications, objectives, and standards.
  • Provide sales presentations to customer personnel, as required.
  • Obtain and prepare detailed estimates of time, quantities, labor, and material costs required for work areas such as product design, testing, machine building, equipment installations, and manufacturing processes.
  • Assemble and collect all necessary technical information and customer specifications from engineering and sales & marketing to prepare detailed proposals.
  • Analyze material and write clear, concise language for initial drafts, then select, organize, edit, and revise proposals.
  • Ensure proposals are sent to customers by the most efficient route to meet deadline dates.
  • May be assigned special projects in support of engineering and sales & marketing, as required.
  • Define scope of work adequately enough in proposals to allow project managers and project teams to begin work on systems.
  • Position involves extensive use of Computer-Aided Design software and computerized spreadsheets.
  • Ensure all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years experience in mechanical design engineering with working knowledge of electrical design, in an automation environment.
  • Working knowledge of robotics, machine controls, and manufacturing processes, with the ability to stay up-to-date with leading-edge technology.
  • Familiarity with the use of computerized word processing, presentation software, and computerized spreadsheets using MS Office.
  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or similar drawing package experience.
  • Ability to present ideas, concepts, and pricing information in a clear, concise manner suitable for technical audiences.
