Water Distribution Operator

The City of Ottawa's Water Distribution Branch is seeking a skilled Water Distribution Operator to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the continuous and adequate supply of high-quality potable water to our customers.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and assist with various tasks related to the water distribution system using specialized tools and equipment
- Maintenance, inspection, water quality testing, component installation, replacement, or repair of mains, valves, and services within the distribution system
- Support to City capital and private development works related to water distribution buried infrastructure
- Inspect, maintain, and repair fire hydrants
- Completion of Grade 12
- Minimum of 13 months of experience in a construction or utility operations and maintenance environment
- Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Operator-in-Training Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer
- Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Class 1 Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer
- Must obtain Ontario unrestricted AZ or DZ class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer
- Advanced knowledge of water main and appurtenance materials, installation standards, and specifications
- Intermediate knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, water system hydraulics, and conveyance principles
- Intermediate knowledge of public health principles and water quality control, assurance, and disinfection procedures used within a water distribution system
- Intermediate knowledge of current provincial legislation pertaining to drinking water systems
- A competitive salary range of $61,863.36 - $72,377.76 annually (2024 rates of pay)
