Position Overview:
As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, you will actively engage in the organization and delivery of care to elderly clients within a psychiatric environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Enhance the individual's functionality, engagement, and autonomy in their recovery journey.
  2. Encourage healthy lifestyle modifications through educational initiatives.
  3. Deliver individualized care by understanding the distinct needs of older adults facing mental health challenges and varying degrees of cognitive impairments.
  4. Assess patient requirements and respond effectively and timely.
  5. Track and document patient reactions to therapeutic measures and communicate any unexpected results to the supervising RN.
  6. Work collaboratively with the Registered Nurse to manage rapidly evolving circumstances.
  7. Exhibit an understanding of and adhere to the vision and values of The Royal, along with relevant policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
  8. Foster a supportive working relationship and facilitate effective communication within the interdisciplinary team.
  9. Establish and nurture constructive therapeutic relationships among staff, patients, and their families.
  10. Accountable for adhering to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards for RPNs.
  11. Participate in continuous learning and professional development through ongoing education and reflective practice.
  12. Administer medications and conduct treatments within the full scope of practice for RPNs, in accordance with applicable regulations and the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards.
  13. Commit to ongoing professional growth.
  14. Operate in compliance with safety practices, policies, and procedures at The Royal.
  15. Contribute to a work environment that aligns with The Royal's Anti-Racism, Harassment, & Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. Graduate from an accredited Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
  2. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  3. Preferred minimum of two years recent experience with elderly individuals experiencing psychiatric or mental health conditions.
  4. Familiarity with CNO Standards related to RPN scope of practice.
  5. Understanding of the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation.
  6. WHMIS training completed within the last year.
  7. Fire Safety training completed within the last year.
  8. Current CPR Certification.
  9. Completion of training in Prevention of Violence in the Workplace (C.P.I.) is required.
  10. Preferred training in GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approach) and P.I.E.C.E.S, or other relevant dementia care training.
  11. Dedication to ongoing professional development.
  12. Basic computer proficiency is required.
  13. Current knowledge of mechanical lifts, transfer, and positioning techniques.
  14. English level A- is essential in oral expression/comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. French level A- is necessary in oral expression and comprehension.
