Position Overview

As an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, you will engage actively and collaboratively in collecting pertinent health data, organizing, and delivering comprehensive mental health and physical care to elderly clients within an Ambulatory Care and ECT psychiatric environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer all nursing care to ECT clients, including preparation of equipment and supplies for ECT and intravenous ketamine infusion procedures, while demonstrating proficiency in emergency equipment usage, oxygen delivery, suction devices, and monitoring tools.
  • Assist in the enhancement of protocols, policies, and documentation to align with the latest national ECT standards and guidelines.
  • Empower clients by maximizing their function, participation, and autonomy in their recovery journey.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of the needs of clients, families, and community service providers, fostering collaborative planning and delivery of person-centered care.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide nursing support across Outpatient, Outreach, and ECT services.
  • Facilitate and engage patients in both individual and group sessions.
  • Deliver care in emergency psychiatric and medical situations, demonstrating the ability to prioritize effectively based on client needs and available resources.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, recognizing and intervening in emergent health issues.
  • Apply knowledge of the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation governing mental health nursing practice.
  • Ensure safe preparation and administration of medications in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to safety practices and procedures to maintain a secure work environment.
  • Foster a workplace that aligns with the organization's Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
  • Preferred qualifications include certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and/or Gerontology, along with a minimum of two years of recent experience in Geriatric Nursing and Psychiatry.
  • Ability to provide specialized training in ECT for qualified nursing personnel is desirable.
  • Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) and Prevention of Violence in the Workplace is preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Canadian Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing standards, psychopharmacology, and medication management challenges in the elderly population.
  • Possess excellent organizational and coordination skills to ensure efficient and safe patient treatment, recovery, and transitions.
  • Completion of Fire Training and other relevant training is required.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary, along with completion of workload measurement and RAI-MH training upon hire.
  • English proficiency at level A- is mandatory in all aspects of communication, with French proficiency at level A- in oral expression and comprehension.
