Job Summary

This position is based out of the Acheson facility with occasional travel to various McAsphalt facilities in Western Canada. As a Health and Safety Assistant, you will be a key member of the McAsphalt HSE&Q Team, responsible for building a culture of excellence and awareness in health and safety. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the development and execution of work procedures, making health, safety, and environmental recommendations, and collaborating with the Regional Specialist and Facility Managers to prepare, maintain, and update plant-specific HSE&Q policies and manuals.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with special projects, including Risk Control Projects (RCP).
  • Provide support with environmental engineering initiatives.
  • Prepare, develop, and implement site compliance audits in collaboration with the corporate HSE Manager.
  • Develop and deliver site-specific health, safety, and environmental training.
  • Assist with accident/incident investigations and the development/implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • Support the continual improvement of the facility Integrated Management System (IMS) as it relates to HSE.
  • Assist HSE Specialist and Facility Management with compliance monitoring.
  • Monitor and analyze applicable regulations, communicating information on changes in the regulatory environment and delegating responsibility for further analysis and implementation.
  • Lead, coordinate, or participate in multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Conduct and assist with the development of job hazard analysis and direct completion of corrective actions.
  • Provide input into specific work instructions for day-to-day tasks.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections and safety talks.
  • Act as a site HS committee member.
  • Inspect and maintain emergency equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion or working towards a designation (CRSP, NCSO) or bachelor's degree in health, safety, or environmental field or equivalent experience required.
  • Demonstrated HSE work experience.
  • Thorough working understanding of Provincial and Canadian Occupational Health and Safety laws and regulations is essential.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communications skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel at the intermediate level.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Good interpersonal/coaching and strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas involving government regulations and worker's compensation rules and regulations.
  • Valid driver's license. Clean Drivers Abstract. Ability to travel to various facilities in western Canada.
