Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Excavator Operator to join our team at Colas Western Canada Inc. as a key member of our roadbuilding operations. As an Excavator Operator, you will be responsible for operating a 308 Cat Excavator and ensuring the safe execution of your tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a 308 Cat Excavator in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Participate in and continuously improve all aspects of the company's safety programs and initiatives.
  • Comply with company safety standards and policies, as well as legislated environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Be responsible for the safe execution of your own tasks and report any problems or hazards to the onsite supervisor or superintendent.
  • Operate heavy mobile equipment of various sizes and weights safely and efficiently.
  • Follow direction from the supervisor or superintendent regarding daily tasks and expectations.
  • Positively participate in the Goal Zero Initiative and adhere to the Defined Activities for your position.
  • Perform equipment checks and inform mechanics and supervisors of any mechanical problems with the equipment.
  • Assist in training less experienced employees on the proper operations and servicing of equipment.
  • Communicate professionally and diplomatically with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and visitors at all times.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the roadbuilding industry is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years operating a construction-grade excavator.
  • Ability to work in highly congested areas and operate mobile heavy equipment safely and efficiently under various working conditions.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of industry practices and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Able to perform physical/manual labor for extended periods of time.
  • Able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
  • Able and willing to work overtime as required.
  • Reliable and strong work ethic.
  • Strong regard for ethics.
  • Ability to meet and adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies, including pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing.
  • Willingness to join and/or maintain active membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 955, if not already a member.
