About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Examiner to join our team at the Government of Alberta. As a Medical Examiner, you will play a critical role in investigating deaths and determining the cause and manner of death.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Autopsies and Examinations

Assist with or perform autopsies and surgical specimen examinations under pathologists' supervision, and remove organs and tissue specimens from bodies in the morgue as directed by the pathologist.

Investigate Deaths

Investigate deaths to determine the cause and manner of death, and prepare detailed reports of findings.

Collaborate with Other Professionals

Collaborate with other professionals, including pathologists, coroners, and law enforcement officials, to ensure that deaths are investigated thoroughly and accurately.

Requirements
  • Education

A degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry is required.

Experience

At least 5 years of experience in a related field is required.

Certifications and Licenses

Specialty residency training and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification Examination are required.

Working Conditions
  • Work Environment

Work in a morgue or other laboratory setting, and may be required to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical Demands

May be required to lift and move heavy objects, and may be exposed to hazardous materials.
