About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Examiner to join our team at the Government of Alberta. As a Medical Examiner, you will play a critical role in investigating deaths and determining the cause and manner of death.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct autopsies and surgical specimen examinations to determine the cause and manner of death
  • Remove organs and tissue specimens from bodies in the morgue as directed by the pathologist
  • Assist with or perform autopsies and surgical specimen examinations under pathologists' supervision
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and other agencies to investigate deaths and determine the cause and manner of death
  • Provide expert testimony in court as needed
Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree
  • Completion of a residency program in pathology or a related field
  • Board certification in pathology or a related field
  • 5 years or more of experience in a related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
