Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as an Assistant Manager of 24-Hour Housing Operations. This is a critical role that will support the Manager of 24-Hour Housing in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our 24-hour housing programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Manager in overseeing the operation of all housing programs with 24-hour staffing, including selecting, training, and leading management and union staff.
  • Represent the organization at the Landlord and Tenant Board and initiate or support actions within the rental legislation in Ontario.
  • Collect client data and ensure timely filing of reports to funders, including the use of the Toronto Grants, Rebates and Incentives Portal (TGRIP).
  • Meet regularly with Coordinated Access and Priority Access to Housing with Supports (PATHS) and provide support to Site Managers in performing tasks and duties.
  • Maintain positive relationships with relevant community, health, and government partners, including scheduling and attending meetings, providing support with partnership development, training, and attending stakeholders/city-wide development meetings.
  • Represent Homes First at future workshops, groups, and other events.
  • Monitor and adhere to legislative requirements, such as the rental legislation in Ontario, Collective Agreement, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Act, and Homes First's policies and procedures.
  • Support data collection, evaluation, and development, and prepare and submit reports by required dates.
  • Maintain both external and internal confidentiality, and attend regular team meetings and provide supports related to decision making and case planning.
  • Support Site Managers with the supervision of a unionized workforce and ensure that all staff work is within the context of the Collective Agreement.
  • Orient team members as needed, and may be required to work outside of regular hours.
Requirements
  • A degree in a relevant discipline equivalent to an undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of social work/social services.
  • At least three years' experience working in community-based settings with homeless and marginalized individuals, including people who use illicit drugs.
  • At least two years' experience in a leadership role in a unionized environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to problem solve and provide support, including the ability to develop systemic solutions to how new and existing work is completed.
  • Familiarity with facilitating trainings/groups.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Employment Standards Act.
  • Knowledge of relevant housing legislation including the rental legislation in Ontario (Residential Tenancies Act, Rental Fairness Act, etc), RGI requirements, and Landlord and Tenant Board processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team to integrate teams' work as well as work with other teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of the issues and best practice approaches working with 2SLGBTQ communities through an anti-racist intersectional framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with 2SLGBTQ communities including demonstrated experience integrating anti-racism, anti-oppression, and intersectional values and principles into daily practice.
  • Ability to be self-directed, work independently, and manage a varied workload.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, decision-making, conflict management, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Highly developed understanding of and ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Extensive experience with conflict resolution and well-developed de-escalation skills.
  • Commitment to social justice principles and an understanding of the intersection of gender, race, sexuality, and class.
  • Demonstrated experience with overdose prevention and response; as well as knowledge of applicable legislation and government policies related to overdose and harm reduction services.
  • Ability to develop and execute plans to achieve functional goals.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to access and use a variety of information system tools.
  • Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required.
