Position Overview
The Schulich School of Engineering, in collaboration with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI), at the University of Calgary is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track role at the rank of Assistant Professor. The selected individual will be considered for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Neuromorphic Technologies.
Responsibilities
The appointee will join the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and will actively engage in research, mentoring of students and postdoctoral fellows, as well as teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. They will be expected to contribute to curriculum development and will gradually take on leadership responsibilities within the department and the broader academic community.
Research Expectations
The successful candidate is anticipated to establish a robust research program focused on neuromorphic technologies, aiming for national and international recognition within five to ten years. They will be responsible for securing competitive external funding and attracting high-caliber trainees and staff. Teaching responsibilities will include a variety of courses aligned with their expertise.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a PhD in engineering, life sciences, or a related field, and demonstrate a record of scholarly impact, research productivity, and the ability to lead an independent research group. Experience in mentoring graduate students and teaching at both levels is essential.
Eligibility Criteria
In accordance with the regulations for Tier II Canada Research Chairs, candidates must have completed their PhD within the last 10 years and be recognized as emerging leaders in their field. Consideration will be given to those who have experienced career interruptions.
Research Focus
The research agenda should advance knowledge in neuromorphic technologies, with potential areas of interest including the development of brain-inspired algorithms and neuromorphic hardware, as well as sensory processing systems for brain-computer applications.
