Role of the Project Manager

Project Managers at Cheme Engineering leverage their leadership and management expertise to ensure projects are delivered punctually, meet specifications, and adhere to budgetary constraints for our clients. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience and familiarity with capital projects within the pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or science and technology sectors.

As a Project Manager, you will guide a multi-disciplinary team across various projects while providing mentorship and coaching to junior staff members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee assigned team members
  • Define project scope and estimate engineering fees
  • Prepare proposals
  • Act as the primary liaison with clients
  • Maintain budgets and schedules
  • Estimate costs for equipment installation
  • Lead project execution, coordinating contractors, vendors, and reporting progress to clients
  • Supervise equipment selection, sizing calculations, and P&ID development according to client specifications
  • Draft construction specifications, user requirements, functional specifications, and scope documentation
  • Prepare and review commissioning and validation protocols
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing and oversee on-site commissioning and validation activities
  • Travel to client locations for site assessments and troubleshooting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Science (Engineering) or a Bachelor of Science in a physical science from a recognized Canadian university
  • Project Management Professional designation is advantageous but not mandatory
  • 10 years of relevant experience in project management and process development or technology transfer
  • Experience managing capital projects ranging from $5,000 to $20,000,000
  • Proficient in managing projects, systems, staff, clients, finances, and business relationships
  • Experience supervising team members and training junior staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with clients and colleagues
  • Familiarity with standard business practices including quoting, requirements preparation, marketing, and sales
  • Proficient in Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite for document preparation
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Project for scheduling and resource tracking
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
