Position Summary:

The Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations at the location, ensuring that shop staff are effectively managed and that maintenance performance is optimized. This role involves direct supervision of maintenance personnel and provides essential operational insights to the Location Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and schedule fleet maintenance activities, assist in diagnosing equipment issues, and communicate vehicle availability for service.
  • Oversee hiring, training, and development of shop staff, including performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Collaborate with the Location Manager and regional maintenance management to discuss maintenance status and budgetary needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies, maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Review and authorize repair orders, manage fuel procurement, and coordinate subcontracted repair services.
  • Initiate projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
  • Ensure maintenance technicians are well-trained, equipped, and motivated to perform their duties safely and effectively.
  • Supervise bus fueling operations and may oversee building and grounds maintenance services.
  • Complete special projects as assigned and engage in hands-on maintenance activities as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid CDL Operator's license with necessary endorsements.

Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in mechanical maintenance.
  • Ability to lift weights ranging from 20 to 50 lbs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications related to maintenance management.
  • Experience in repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is advantageous.
