With facilities across Canada, our team comprises over 1,100 skilled professionals, all driven by a passion for aviation excellence.

The Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) Program is designed to prepare pilots, Air Combat Systems Operators, and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators for the evolving aerospace needs of the Royal Canadian Air Force. As a key member of the SkyAlyne Team, KF Aerospace will function as an Acceptable Technical Organization (ATO), serving as the Military Type Certificate Holder for multiple fleets of training aircraft.

POSITION SUMMARY

The selected candidate will assist the FAcT Head of Engineering within the FAcT ATO by executing ongoing airworthiness tasks for their designated aircraft fleet. This includes risk management, configuration oversight, maintenance program administration, design modification management, in-service monitoring, and technical issue resolution. During the transition phase of the FAcT Program, the Fleet Engineer will oversee the military Release to Service (RTS) of the aircraft fleet, necessitating collaboration with various members of the SkyAlyne FAcT team, the aircraft OEM, and the DND Airworthiness Regulator to fulfill all Technical, Operational, and Investigative Airworthiness Clearance requirements in line with the DND Airworthiness Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Transition/Development Phase

  • Lead the formulation of an Airworthiness Clearance (AWC) Plan in collaboration with the FAcT Head of Engineering, fellow Fleet Engineers, the DND Technical Airworthiness Authority (TAA), and the aircraft and engine Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Monitor and manage tasks within the AWC Plan leading to Release to Service for the relevant fleet, including tracking data deliverables, action items, risks, and issues. Coordinate efforts across multiple agencies and represent technical and airworthiness concerns for the fleet on the Aircraft Integrated Product team (IPT).
  • Establish and oversee the fleet's Design Support Network (DSN), involving aircraft and engine OEMs and other major component OEMs as necessary.
  • Support the Integrated Test Team (ITT) in developing and executing the Aircraft Integrated Test Program (AITP), encompassing all required certification testing, Engineering Test and Evaluation, and Operational Test and Evaluation.
  • Assist in creating the Engineering Process Manual (EPM) for the FAcT ATO.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of relevant contract deliverables.
  • Aid in aircraft acquisition and acceptance processes as needed.

In-Service Phase

  • Fulfill military Type Certificate Holder responsibilities as outlined in the EPM, including granting Technical Airworthiness Clearance (TAC) and processing requests for flight authority/flight permits.
  • Manage Configuration Management, Airworthiness Risk Management, Design Change Management, and provide Engineering Support to AMO and Maintenance Program Management.
  • Oversee in-service monitoring and track fleet technical and airworthiness issues to resolution, collaborating with AMO, SDE, KF Aerospace ADO, TAA, and OAA as necessary.
  • Manage technical projects such as aircraft design modifications.
  • Provide necessary reports to the SDE, including in-service monitoring, annual airworthiness reports, service difficulties, fleet performance reports, and others as required.
  • Supervise strategic fleet planning to ensure fleet availability meets operational requirements.
  • Review and act on Reliability and Maintainability reports as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and prioritize the activities of Planners, Technical Specialists, and data analysts to optimize fleet availability for the flying program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Engineering (relevant discipline) or equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • At least seven years of experience in technical support for aircraft in active flying operations.
  • Previous experience within the DND Airworthiness Program is an asset.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as required.
