Position Summary: We are seeking a Technical Specialist – Hull to join our In-Service Support team. This role is crucial for managing defects related to Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs), Joint Support Ships (JSS), and other vessels under the MWAV contract. The Technical Specialist will also assist the AJISS and MWAV Engineering and Supportability Team in various engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough investigations on board vessels or through the Technical Document Package (TDP), collaborating with OEMs, service providers, and ship personnel to resolve defects.
- Develop Job Instructions and Statements of Work (SOW) to facilitate defect resolution, while identifying and proposing improvements to the TDP.
- Provide technical guidance to ensure proper operation and maintenance of hull systems and equipment.
- Foster strong working relationships within Thales and with clients to ensure effective coordination and prompt issue resolution.
- Assist the Supportability team in identifying and assessing alternative parts and addressing obsolescence challenges.
- Support the Engineering team with engineering changes, deviations, waivers, and on-board surveys.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the marine sector, focusing on vessel construction, refits, or maintenance.
- Extensive knowledge of marine hull systems, lifting appliances, paint preservation, plumbing, welding methods, and ship structures.
- Experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard is preferred.
- Familiarity with certification requirements such as Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, and DND regulations is advantageous.
- A technical diploma from a recognized institution or military technical training certification is a plus.
- Understanding of hull repairs, inspections, quality control, and corrosion management.
- Additional certifications (NACE, Non-Destructive Testing, Welding, etc.) are beneficial.
Physical Demands:
- Combination of office work and on-site inspections in dockyards and naval vessels.
- Ability to perform inspections in confined spaces and machinery areas of naval ships.
- Willingness to work at heights and in restricted spaces (training will be provided).
