Technical Specialist - Hull

Thales is seeking a highly skilled Technical Specialist - Hull to join our team. As a key member of our In-Service Support team, you will be responsible for managing defects for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs) and Joint Support Ships (JSS), as well as Minor Warships and Auxiliary Vessels managed by Thales under the MWAV contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct investigations on board ships or using technical documentation to identify and resolve defects.
  • Develop job instructions and statements of work to support defect resolution.
  • Identify issues within technical documentation and propose improvements or corrections.
  • Provide technical advice to ensure hull systems and equipment are correctly operated or maintained.
  • Develop a good working relationship with Thales and customer organizations to ensure coordination and rapid resolution of issues.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a marine sector associated with vessel construction, refits, or maintenance within the last 10 years.
  • Strong working knowledge of marine hull systems, lifting points, appliances, paint and preservation, pipefitting and plumbing, welding methods, machinery systems, and ship structure.
  • Previous experience working with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.
  • Familiarity with certification requirements, including Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations.
  • 3-year technical program diploma or certified to the QL-6B level of military technical training.
  • Knowledge of hull structures, repairs, and modifications, inspections, surveys, and quality control, and corrosion control.
